April Fish

I almost forgot! Friday was POISSON D'AVRIL!!! In other words, April Fool's Day in France! Only when translated it means April Fish!
When French Club went to the middle school a few weeks ago, we taught the small children about Mardi Gras and Poisson d'avril. So, on Poisson d'avril French people enjoy sticking a paper fish on their friend's back and shouting "Poisson d'avril!" They think it's funny.

Also, they eat chocolate fish. They're like chocolate Easter bunnies, but way better.

They think this holiday originated in the olden days when the king of France wanted to change the calendar. The old new year was April 1st, and the new one was going to be January 1st, like it is now. The people that didn't want to switch calendars were called 'April Fish.'

My French class is currently trying to bring this joyful holiday to the US. Or at least to the high school.

I think it's a postcard, but I'm not sure what it says :)

Haha :) it's cute whatever it says. The only think I can pick out is on the right where it says 1er avril which I'm guessing is first of April.

Yeah 1er avril is April 1st and then it starts with "in April the fish..."
